Alan has over 32 years experience in the health care industry as a human resources and benefits executive. Before co-founding Preferred Partners Insurance Agency, he spent 25 years as the Chief Human Resources Officer at Tenet Healthcare, a multi-billion dollar hospital management company that at its peak had over 100,000 employees.
His previous experience included serving as the Divisional Vice President of Personnel for American Hospital Supply Corporation where he focused on recruiting, organizational development and preventive labor relations.
Alan has always had a particular interest in enhancing his company’s benefit plan competitiveness. He drove the early adoption of such concepts as self-funding, utilization review, and cafeteria benefit plans.
As cost containment became more important, he moved to implement case management, physician contracting, PPOs and managed care, while still striving to balance affordability with providing a quality offering of plans to employees. He directed the management of employee benefit plans, including integration of acquisitions and consolidation of benefit plans. He also oversaw cost containment efforts, led plan designing and communication, and initiated executive benefits such as Section 105 plans and SERPs.
Alan holds a BS and MBA from Mississippi State University. He earned PPACA Certification as an expert in health care reform from the National Association of Health Underwriters. A licensed agent, Alan lives in Newport Beach with his wife and has four grown children. He loves traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.
